Tylers Green First School - Winter 2011/12

It is exactly a year I took up my post at Tylers Green First school - I have enjoyed it, having the opportunity to contribute to community life.

This term we have some exciting activities taking place. In January we will have a visiting dance drama workshop and a live production coming into school of the pantomime Sleeping Beauty. I am sure that a fun afternoon will be had by all - you may even hear us joining in!

Before the half term break the children will be involved in an Eco/Science week when we hope to explore many fascinating science based investigations and discoveries as well as focusing on the School planting beds and the work of the Eco club. This is especially important as we are working towards our Green Flag status which we hope to achieve this year.

After the half term break we will have our Pancake Race on Shrove Tuesday. All the children are put into teams from reception to year 2 and work together to find a winning team. We all had a great time doing this last year and much enjoyment and laughter was evident. I think the birds also enjoyed the scraps of pancake that were not picked up!

We also hope to have a back to front day to raise money for some toys which the children would like in every class. This is the brain child of the school council who will help to plan and organise the day.

This term we will also be welcoming some of our youngest children onto the school council to help us.

So as you can see we are going to have a busy and exciting start to the year. We are hoping that the weather will remain kind and that we can all get around without any hindrance. My best wishes to you all.

Our annual Christmas Bazaar in December was a big success! Support from local businesses including JJ’s, Joe Gleeson, the Crown, Kings Ride Supermarket, and Londis was very much appreciated.

We held a Quiz Night in November – thanks to the Red Lion, Penn for providing questions.

Our next event is a Race Night on 3rd March.
